Also look for an apartment with garbage service, so that you don't have to wait for the garbage truck every day. Some apartments will have so-called "wet bathrooms", which means that there is a shower but no shower stall/curtain. Basically, the whole bathroom is considered to be the shower stall. This turns the bathroom into a watery mess, so most westerners will do best to avoid them. You'll find a ledge at the doorway of a wet bathroom (or a western bathroom equipped with wet-bathroom drainage standards) to keep the water in, so don't stub your toe on it!...
